We Will Not Let You Down

It is a common misconception that solicitors are unwilling to act in disputes against other professionals and/or that the Courts will take the side of the professional in any claim brought against them. Whilst that is not true, it is true to say that professional negligence is a specialist topic and not an area of general practice for solicitors. This has the effect of reducing the number of solicitors who are sufficiently aware of the issues involved to enable them to undertake professional negligence work.

At Healys, we have the necessary levels of expertise, experience and resources to provide advice, assistance and representation to clients who believe that they have a claim against a professional. The key elements of this service are:

  • quick and efficient review of any potential claims;
  • clear advice on the merits of any potential claim;
  • full explanation of the practice and procedure involved in pursuing a claim;
  • transparency on costs; and
  • availability of conditional fee funding arrangements.

Although defendant professional negligence work tends to be concentrated among a few firms with reputations in that field, the market for claimant work has traditionally been far more disparate and fragmented. We aim to change that. Indeed, we believe that we have started to do so. We have a growing reputation in this area of the law. We have helped and we continue to help clients who were not adequately served by the professional advisers that they initially engaged. We also act for the professional adviser/insurer because we do that too. Indeed, while our focus is on claimant work, we find (like poachers who turn gamekeeper) that occasionally acting for the Defendant keeps us abreast and gives us the edge.

Robert Johnson has substantial experience and expertise in professional negligence matters. Both are members of the Professional Negligence Lawyers’ Association. This body was formed in August 2004 by a group of solicitors from different parts of the country who felt that the general public had no obvious focal point to obtain help in a disputes with professionals and find specialists able them to solve their problems. Robert has been a member of the Association since its inception.
