It is still possible to buy a home in the UK for less than £28,600, although that's not true in London or Brighton, according to the latest survey from website Mouseprice, which will interest all those involved in the property business, including estate agents, surveyors and residential conveyancing solicitors, as well as first-time buyers looking to get a foot on the housing ladder.
The cheapest street is Fernhill, Mountain Ash, near Cardiff in Wales, which also topped the list last year when a house there changed hands for only £24,640.
The next most affordable area in the UK is Brierfield in Lancashire, near Burnley, where three of the other districts in the top ten listing compiled from Land Registry records are also situated.
Teeside, including Middlesbrough, provides the other cheapest property out of the ten quoted, with the most costly of those being £35,600.
These figures for home sales contrast sharply with Mouseprice's previous survey results on the ten most expensive areas in which to buy. All of these were in London, with one street having properties which were sold for £7m.
First-time buyers can research recent selling prices for flats and house in their chosen area before visiting a residential conveyancing solicitor by checking the Mouseprice website .
