Resolution, the organisation of family lawyers in London, Brighton and throughout the UK, has launched an online search facility to help couples considering, or experiencing, divorce to find an independent financial advisor (IFA) who specialises in divorce financial settlement work.
An accreditation scheme for IFAs experienced in divorce-related work was launched in 2006 by Resolution and involves the advisor undergoing specialist training in family law-related issues and passing rigorous exams.
Currently, there are 75 divorce accredited IFAs registered with Resolution and the search facility will accompany new information pages regarding divorce financial settlement issues on the website.
The Chairman of Resolution, David Allison, said, "Sorting out the money can often be one of the most stressful aspects of any divorce and people need access to the right help at the right time.
"That is why Resolution runs a stringent and high quality accreditation scheme for IFAs who have a proven track record in the divorce arena."
He added that the launch of the search facility would enable anybody who needed advice on financial issues arising from relationship breakdown to find an accredited IFA quickly and simply by visiting the Resolution website.
Some divorce solicitors may also wish to refer clients with particularly complex financial portfolios or inherited wealth to an IFA to aid fair division of assets in a divorce financial settlement.
